Malcom McInnis Biography

Malcolm McInnis is a gg-grandson of Angus McInnis, who left the Isle of Jura in 1819 and settled in Cumberland Co., NC. Malcolm was born and reared in St. Petersburg, FL. His formal education includes a BS degree from the University of Florida, a law degree from the Stetson College of Law, and the Ph.D. degree from Florida State University. His military experience was as a JAG officer in the US Air Force from 1962-1965.

He spent several years in the private practice of law and in 1972 joined the University of Tennessee first as an administrator, then as a faculty member and department head in the College of Education. For eight years he served as the University’s representative to the NCAA before moving in 1992 to the Athletic Department where he is Associate Athletic Director in charge of compliance.

Malcolm is a past president of Clan MacInnes Society, which he joined in 1974, attending every Grandfather Mountain Highland Games during that time with his wife, Jackie. Daughter, Maurie, who was a much-decorated Highland Dancer during her school days, has further enriched the Clan membership with the addition of her husband, Dean Johnson, and young son, Ian Malcolm Johnson.
